Overview

Eddy Current Testing (ECT) induces alternating electromagnetic fields in a conductive material; changes in the resulting eddy currents reveal surface-breaking and near-surface cracks, even through thin coatings and paint. It is fast, requires no couplant, and is widely used on elevated work platform and crane components where fatigue cracking is a concern.

Because ECT can inspect without removing coatings, it is a cost-effective screening tool for in-service equipment. NDT Australia uses ECT extensively during EWP and crane major inspections to detect cracking at high-stress welds and pins.
