Dye Penetrant Testing (PT) detects surface-breaking defects on virtually any non-porous material, including stainless steel and aluminium.

Overview

Dye Penetrant Testing (PT) applies a coloured or fluorescent penetrant that seeps into surface-breaking defects by capillary action; after removing the excess, a developer draws the penetrant back out to reveal the flaw. Unlike MPI, PT works on non-ferrous materials such as aluminium, stainless steel and titanium.

It is one of the most cost-effective methods for detecting cracks, porosity and leaks on the surface of components, and NDT Australia applies it across fabrication, maintenance and defect-investigation work.
