Overview

For cherry pickers, inspection starts with the manufacturer's instructions, service history and any previous defect or repair records. The agreed scope can combine visual examination with targeted NDT at welds, pins, pivots and other high-stress areas.

NDT Australia records the areas examined, methods used, findings and limitations in a clear report. Where the agreed scope calls for engineering input, the report can be provided for review by the responsible engineer or competent person.

Standards, Scope & Records

The inspection can reference AS 2550.10 — Elevated work platforms safe use together with manufacturer instructions, the equipment configuration and other requirements agreed for the engagement. The applicable edition, inspection extent and acceptance criteria should be confirmed for the specific machine.

Planning the Inspection

EWP inspection planning should distinguish operator checks, periodic servicing and a detailed inspection or major inspection. The interval and extent depend on the model, design life, duty and applicable requirements.
