Crane NDT planning and reporting

The crane owner should provide the crane type and model, manufacturer requirements, inspection history, drawings, duty or incident information and access plan. The inspection team then defines the locations, methods and preparation. A component may need cleaning, coating removal, positioning or dismantling to allow a valid examination, and those needs should be planned before a shutdown window.

The report records identity, areas examined, NDT method, calibration or reference information, indications, limitations and photographs or location sketches where appropriate. A finding is not automatically a failure or a clearance to operate. It must be assessed against the applicable requirements by the responsible competent person or engineer, with repairs and reinspection documented where needed.
