Truck Crane Inspection
Inspection of truck-mounted cranes follows the interface between the mounted equipment, vehicle sub-frame and load path, with structural, hydraulic and control checks selected for the configuration.
Overview
For truck-mounted cranes, the scope should include the mounting arrangement, sub-frame, stabilisers or outriggers, fatigue-critical welds and the equipment's service records. Targeted NDT is selected after the component material, access and suspected failure mode are reviewed.
NDT Australia records the areas examined, methods used, findings and limitations in a clear report. Where the agreed scope calls for engineering input, the report can be provided for review by the responsible engineer or competent person.

Standards, Scope & Records
The inspection can reference AS 1418.11 — Vehicle loading cranes together with manufacturer instructions, the equipment configuration and other requirements agreed for the engagement. The applicable edition, inspection extent and acceptance criteria should be confirmed for the specific machine.
Planning the Inspection
Vehicle-mounted equipment needs an inspection plan that separates the vehicle's roadworthiness responsibilities from the mounted plant's structural and lifting requirements.
For a single machine or fleet, provide the model, location, service history and previous reports so the inspection can be planned around access and downtime.
