Franna Crane Inspection

Overview

For pick-and-carry (franna) cranes, the inspection scope is set from the crane type, configuration, manufacturer information, duty history and prior findings. Visual checks and targeted NDT can be combined at booms, jibs, welds, pins and other fatigue-critical details.

NDT Australia records the areas examined, methods used, findings and limitations in a clear report. Where the agreed scope calls for engineering input, the report can be provided for review by the responsible engineer or competent person.

The inspection can reference AS 2550.1 — Cranes safe use general together with manufacturer instructions, the equipment configuration and other requirements agreed for the engagement. The applicable edition, inspection extent and acceptance criteria should be confirmed for the specific machine.

Crane inspection planning should separate routine operator checks, periodic maintenance and any major inspection or engineering assessment. Timing is not assumed from the equipment name alone.
