Eddy current testing works by passing alternating current through a coil, which creates a changing magnetic field. When the coil is placed near a conductive material, it induces circulating eddy currents in the surface.
A defect such as a crack disrupts the flow of these eddy currents, changing the coil's impedance. The instrument detects this change and alerts the inspector.
